Signals from Outer Space – Comfort #26S

Posted on August 31, 2011

She likes to make a lot of noise. She often says, BOO. No one listens.  She is dead anyway. For all intents and purposes she is a ghost. So this ghost finds some headphones that have been left plugged into a giant radio machine. She puts them on. There is a signal from outer space. The martians are coming. The martians are going! The martians are indecisive.

She has always wondered what the difference is between a signal and noise. Now she knows that noise travels a much shorter distance.  Noise is messy and savage. If she could stop being a noisy ghost she could become an elegant signal and travel into the cosmos. She could visit the stars and witness births and deaths on such a massive scale. But there are many perks to being a ghost that she is not yet willing to give up, such as spying on people in the shower, wearing white sheets, and floating upside down from the ceilings.  Someday.
